Beale's Park Fish Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Beale’s Park Fish Restaurant is like slipping into a comforting local tradition where the rhythm slows just enough to savor life’s simpler pleasures. This cozy spot, nestled just off the Porthcawl promenade, welcomes visitors with the familiar warmth of a genuine neighborhood chippy that’s seen countless shared meals and friendly faces over the years. The hum of quiet conversation mingles with the occasional clatter from the kitchen — a reassuring soundtrack to an unpretentious, relaxed lunch or early dinner.
The space itself is welcoming without pretense, inviting you to linger over the experience rather than rush through it. Whether you find your seat indoors or grab a takeaway, the feeling is the same: a moment of calm in a busy day with food that feels like a true local comfort. It’s a place where families, friends, and visitors alike pause to reconnect over food that’s thoughtfully prepared, served boiling hot, and done just right.
At Beale’s, the food never feels rushed or fleeting — it’s a simple celebration of classics done well. Crisp golden batters, thick-cut chips, and hearty sides like mushy peas and homemade curry sauces aren’t just accompaniments but part of a narrative that’s as much about memory as it is about flavor. The portions invite sharing, the ingredients feel honest, and the occasional surprise, like a battered sausage or a proper pie, adds a comforting twist to the familiar.
There’s a sense of place woven through every plate. It’s the kind of restaurant where a perfectly fried haddock tastes as much like the sea breeze just a short stroll away as it does like the pride of longstanding local craft. Beneath the modest decor and the unassuming pace lies a quietly cherished institution — one that locals return to for moments that matter, whether it’s a quick, satisfying bite or a relaxed meal that lingers in the memory.

I like this chippy a lot. Best one I’ve been to in Porthcawl so far, though there are quite a few. Great batter and good chips. Fish is very good, sausages and pies are decent. Chicken nuggets are also nice. Recommended.

Fantastic fresh fish and chips. Boiling hot and plentiful. My wife had goujons but failed to eat all of them as they were massive! Highly recommended whilst in Porthcawl

Beales is a Porthcawl institution. Fish & Chips don't come much finer than this. A side of mushy peas just helps complete the exquisite meal. You can get a bag of fish & chips in many other local places if you want the eating while walking experience, including here... but treat yourself and use the restaurant for a meal that will stay in the memory.

Really FANTASTIC fish and chips here I don't ever remember enjoying fish and chips so much, definitely up there with the best ever..Would 100% recommend a visit to Beales when you come to Porthcawl. Little tip, try to get a table inside the restaurant as opposed to near the front door as the door doesn't shut properly and it's not so pleasant if it's cold outside. The staff kindly moved us to a warmer table which we were very grateful for. Very, very tasty fish and the most perfect batter ever. Can't wait to eat there again!

Very nice comfortable fish and chips restaurant. It isn't on the sea front, but only a short drive away. We managed to park outside, although spaces are limited. The place was reasonably clean, and the decor was fine. The toilet was just about okay for Mum with limited mobility using a rollator. I think a lot of people would give this place full stars as there was nothing bad about it. I have a bit of a 'thing' about places that don't change the mop water, so I guess I'm picky! The food looked very good and whilst we have had better, we enjoyed it. We would go back again.

Lovely food and excellent service. The staff accommodated 6 of us on a walk in. They were polite and helpful. Excellent Chicken Curry and Chips, but I do feel there wasn't enough chicken in the Curry.

Dropped in for fish n chips takeaway when working in town - felt compelled to leave a review as the food was so tasty. Proper fish n chips done right! Love that they cooked the fish fresh, even when busy. Look forward to returning!

The service was really good and the staff listened to our requests. The food was really yummy. I liked that the coke came in a can. I liked the door as it can open and is not too hard to use. I liked the plates and all the food I ate. Written by LH and NH (7 and 4)
